Trees, Shrubs & Flowers to Know in British Columbia and Washington
Published in Paperback by Lone Pine Publishing (December, 1997)
Average review score:

Great OrganizationThis book is organized for the beginner (by color) but it is one of the most acurate field guides I have found. The evergreen and broadleaf keys are worth the price of the book.

The best field guide for NW plantsI am restoring 72 acres of wetlands on South Whidbey Island, WA... We have just put in over 4,800 plants, 59 species, as part of a 500-year plan to restore the property to mature old growth and promote maximum biodiversity. This is our guide for identifying and learning all the trees, shrubs, and flowers.

Tropical Deforestation
Published in Hardcover by Columbia University Press (15 April, 1993)
Average review score:

Shine a light of truthTropical Deforestation can be explained in one very short sentence. The rainforests are being destroyed by average people trying to make a better way of life. This is the premise for this book and it is backed up by two decades or research. The book acknowledges there is deforestation in the Ecuadorian Rainforest, but it caused by more obscure facts than is generally reported on the evening news. The book shows that it is not poor people driven to the jungle trying to subsist, but it is energetic people that are actually trying to improve their lives and offer a better future to their children. The book also explains that there are cultural perceptions at work here in developing the rainforest that also helps exacerbate the situation. This book is not an easy read. However, if you want a text that will provide a comprehensive study on the rainforest and deforestation, this is the one.

Visual Basic 6 Coursebook
Published in Paperback by Delmar Learning (01 January, 1999)
Average review score:

Visual Basic 6 Coursebook ReviewThis book is very useful for a beginner in Visual Basic 6. This is a 950+ page book. The examples and code are easy to follow and topics get interesting after chapter 2. After that you get into topics like Error Handling, File Management, Graphics and Data and ADO controls. Over all the book is good and easy to follow plus it has reviews questions and a lot of labs after every section. The Disk included with the book is also helpful and it contains an electronic test. But the only down size to this book is that it contain a lot of junk. The book is 950+ and at least 100 pages are wasted in the first 2 chapters with the introduction to windows 95 which is not necesary. And it has a very lenthy chapter of definitions and more those definitions are repeated in the beginning of every chapter.

Whizzard: Tales of the Dark ForestIt is a great adventure book about a boy called Tym, who is an apprentice to a mean old wizard. Whilst the wizard is out Tym makes a potion that allows him to run so fast you can't see him. He manages to get himself into loads of scrapes because of this, including nearly killing the girl he is in love with accidently (who happens to be a princess!)It all works out in the end, and for those of you who have read the first book, the Harp and Runemaster plus Luigi and Humpfrey Boggart are in this book too. Look out for the next book- Trollogy.

Who Made the Wild Woods?
Published in Hardcover by Waterbrook Press (16 February, 1999)
Average review score:

A Wonderful Christain BookThis book is written in a rhyming format. It introduces lots of the woodland animals in an "add-on" fashion. We made a choral reading presentation out of it with our preschool kids at church. Lots and lots of fun to read with your kids because of course, God made the wildwood and everything in it!

Why Do Leaves Change Color?
Published in Library Binding by Harpercollins Juvenile Books (September, 1994)
Average review score:

Fairly detailed book for early elementary children.I have this book in my preschool classroom, but it is not one that I read at storytime. We use it as a resource when one child begins to question how or why the leaves change color. It is a helpful resource for me as an adult to understand the process, yet in simple language and with pictures to make it interesting for children.
This is an identification key and reference work to Southern African trees, giving per species a short description, a distribution map and one (or more) line drawings of a detail, usually a leaf (sometimes a fruit, sometimes both. Upon occasion a tree habit). Names listed include full scientific name, in some cases synonyms, always an english name and usually an afrikaans name. There are close to a thousand pages of this, supplemented with over a hundred pages of color illustrations (both photographs and colored drawings).
Compared to some of the magnificently illustrated books on trees that are now available this work looks somewhat modest. However the absence of an abundance of photographs does mean that all these trees can be captured in a single binding of a handy size and weight, at a quite affordable price. [Might be due for an update, but I sure won't volunteer to undertake it. That would be a whole lot of work! ]
